Barry Lungu
Barry Lungu is a post-independent first-generation Zimbabwean fine artist. For the past 25 years, he has been painting full-time, using his studio in Harare. His medium of choice is acrylic paint, though he often dabbles in oils. The vibrant environment around him profoundly influences his work, with everyday people and the buzz of the township forming the core of his artistic inspiration.
Barry's talent and ability to capture the essence of Zimbabwean life have made him a renowned figure in the art community. His paintings, all original, depict various aspects of Zimbabwean life, from bustling cities to the serene countryside. His style reflects the hustle and bustle of township landscapes and everyday elements of modern African life.
Barry is one of the contributors of art work to Swiss-Zim Heritage and Artgal.Online.
Sampson Kuvenguhwa
Sampson, born on March 5th, 1953, in a family rooted in the Soko Vashawasha Clan, was named after the biblical figure Samson as a sign of hope for his mother, who had lost two children before him.
Growing up in a large polygamous family, he was nurtured by his grandmother, who introduced him to pottery and ignited his passion for art. Despite struggling academically, Sampson excelled in creative endeavors, carving his first notable piece, a wooden lorry, at fourteen.
His journey led him from humble beginnings to discovering his unique "Mapiti Style" of carving, deeply influenced by his spiritual experiences and his time living in the wilderness. Sampson's art, now a reflection of his life's trials and triumphs, speaks of a man who has carved his identity through resilience, tradition, and a deep connection to his roots.
