Keith Zenda joins the Alive albinism Initiative in Harare

Before Our Home Goes Down – Harare, 28–29 August 2025

Before Our Home Goes Down was a two-day, disability-inclusive arts exhibition taking place on 28–29 August 2025 at Moto Republik, 3 Allan Wilson Avenue. Harare. The event will feature a mix of daytime programs and evening sessions filled with creativity, dialogue, and community.
The exhibition was organized by the Alive Albinism Initiative (AAI), a Harare-based organization that advocates for people with albinism. Its aim is to provide a platform where artists with disabilitiesβ€”especially those with albinismβ€”can showcase their talent and tell their stories through art.
Over the two days, visitors could expect art displays, workshops, and panel discussions designed to challenge stigma, break stereotypes, and promote accessibility in the arts. The program highlighted the power of creativity to raise awareness and encourage more inclusive policies and attitudes in Zimbabwe.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to empower persons with albinism and other artists with disabilities, giving them visibility, recognition, and opportunities to grow within the cultural and creative sector.

🎨✨ Discovering Calistas Thabani πŸŒπŸ’«

During Before Our Home Goes Down in Harare, we had the pleasure of meeting Calistas Thabani, a talented deaf artist whose work left a lasting impression. πŸ™Œ His creativity speaks without words, showing that art truly has no limits. πŸ’›β™Ώ
Calistas has developed a fresh and unique style πŸ–ŒοΈπŸŽ¨ β€” combining bold outlines, vivid colors, and intricate patterns that bring both wildlife πŸ˜πŸ¦“ and abstract stories πŸŒˆπŸ”Ί to life. His elephants, rich in texture and symbolism, stand proudly alongside more experimental works where shapes and lines seem to dance in harmony.
What struck us most is how his art communicates energy, rhythm, and feeling beyond language β€” reminding us that art is a universal voice understood by all. πŸŒŸπŸ‘
